Zusammenfassung
The diffusion of mobile devices like smartphones and tablets influences the information and communication behavior of many users. In addition to new patterns of commonplace information seeking of news, products, etc. and communication with peers, the use of mobile devices has the potential to influence educational contexts and learning. This paper investigates mobile device usage in higher education. The focus is on self-directed employment of mobile devices by students in higher education. Results of an exploratory investigation, which combines diary and focus group findings, deliver a preview of the impact and added value of mobile devices on student’s educational behavior.
